Tarot Explained: The Fool’s Journey and the Path to Spiritual Awakening

Tarot [TEH-ROH or TER-ROW] is the centuries old story of the Fool’s Journey on their path to enlightenment — or rather, our soul’s path toward awakening, healing, and becoming fully conscious.

It reflects the spiritual process each of us goes through in this lifetime: learning our soul lessons, meeting different versions of ourselves along the way, which are represented by the major arcana, and slowly remembering who we truly are. 

The Fool encounters archetypes like the Magician, the High Priestess, the Devil, the Lovers, and more — again and again — until those lessons are integrated. 

This journey ends at The World, the point of enlightenment and wholeness.

Tarot teaches us how to heal our four ethereal bodies as shown in the minor arcana:

• Physical (Pentacles/Earth)

• Mental (Swords/Air)

• Emotional (Cups/Water)

• Spiritual/Astral (Wands/Fire)

This awakening/healing requires dismantling the layers of ego so we can step into our consciousness which usually takes our entire lifetime to accomplish. 

Tarot is a universal spiritual language.

 It weaves together astrology, angel numerology, the medicine wheel, animal spirits, elemental wisdom, polarity, and centuries of intuitive practice. It bridges communication between the physical realm and the unseen dimensions but most of all with our own soul/self.

To reach true enlightenment, the Fool goes through the awakening process — learning to heal and rebalance those ethereal bodies. This is why Tarot is not a “prediction tool.” It is a guidance system, a mirror, and a way to communicate with our own spirit.

And anyone can learn it. Tarot is a skill that develops over time with practice, curiosity, and trusting our intuitive self. There are many misconceptions about Tarot. 

• Not all Tarot readers are psychics. 

• Not all decks are the same. 

Tarot is not the same as Oracle decks, though both are created from channeled wisdom and spiritual roadmaps.

How a message is delivered depends on the reader’s intuitive development — their clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance. Every reader interprets through their own lens. This is why spiritual discernment and intuition matter. Always check in with your energy to see if a message actually resonates with your personal, spiritual truth.

Your energy will always guide you to the right readers, teachers, and messages. When you see a reading online, pause and tune in. Your spirit body — your intuitive self — will tell you if it’s meant for you.

Remember, not everyone who claims to be psychic or a Tarot reader is truly connected. But your own intuition never lies. Learning to trust this internal guidance is a journey. It takes time, experience, and a willingness to stay curious.

And here’s the most important truth: The cards will never tell you something your soul doesn’t already know. Your spirit is what gives you the meaning, the signs, the context behind every card pull.

Each card or spread will speak differently depending on where you are in your soul’s evolution at that present moment. This is why the same card can carry a completely different message from one reading to the next.

And no — spirits from “some other dimension” are not forcing your hand and choosing your cards!  It is your spirit — your soul, or what some call the “higher self” (which I do not believe in by the way- it’s literally our soul self) — communicating with you through the language of Tarot.

So if you pull a daily card (which is the best way to begin), you’re connecting with your own spirit body and receiving guidance for your life’s roadmap.
